I did it while living in La Loche after I moved there a second time. I wanted to get in touch with my 'totem animal" and this painting became that visual exploration. Turns out, my totem animal is a frog. However, I fell in love with the medium and process of layering that can happen with the photo transfers when the clear paint is manipulated. At the time, I was juxtaposing myself into images inspired by what I was reading at the time about female saints. Here, I chose to represent myself with Saint Lucy, patron saint of the blind and those with eye trouble. I find her story fascinating. He makes urns in his spare time for funeral homes in the Regina area. It's the urn I plan to eventually use after I'm cremated. On the top, I've carved my very busy guardians/witnesses...after first seeing them in a dream that I had after getting hit by a bus while living in the Caribbean. These stickers are the same kind that get cut for automobiles, except that we have a lower grade of plastic that doesn't adhere as strongly to vehicle as other levels of the product. They both worked in the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program at the university and I was interested in learning from them about how the program compared to the Northern Teacher Education Program (Nortep) in Saskatchewan. This is also the best 'teaching practice' that I have to share with my professional learning community. Much time and energy has gone into learning the related tools and gathering the information for the web documents, but I've seen how my classroom practices, students and parents have benefited from it's creation.
