  Grandma Deck on Barn Board.jpg - While living in Brooks, I got access to some old barn board from one of the students, so we brought it into class, made some surfaces and experimented with chalks and pastels. This is one of my results, inspired by an old photo of my Grandma Deck when she was 16, I don't particularily like the results, and would have prefered to have stayed away from adding color. It detracted from the look I was trying to capture. However, it is indicative of an attempt to look at my roots in the process of researching my identity for this project.
